@jonjon.jpeg: Here are four answers to why there are planters in the street… Hope this helps with the confusion. 1. They are not in the street. 2. Cars have always been hitting things off the road in Frazier. This is nothing new. Go look at trees planted next to streets and you’ll see that they are scarred from previous crashes. 3. Design has trade-offs, and these trade-offs are good in this situation. Slower cars, property damaged rather than people damaged. 4. This is something we already do throughout the city. Medians have trees in them. Medians have planters in them. Planters are on sidewalks and near streets throughout the city. #traffic #carculture #chattanooga #urbanism #cityplanning
LOOK! It destroyed 4 planters! How awful! That coulda been 4 kids!... 🤔

wild they're asking why put a planter there instead of asking why a car was swerving off the road to begin with.

If you can’t be trusted to drive your car around planters, how on earth should we trust you to drive your car around pedestrians?

The bit about "bad driver doing bad things" is so true. Why are we not blaming the people doing the dangerous stuff??

Reminds me of a video I saw today talking about bike helmets. People believed that wearing helmets increased injury because there was in increase in people ending up in the hospital after accidents.

I HATED walking on Frazier when I went to UTC. I was so scared to get hit by a car. So thank you for your efforts to keep Chattanoogans safe!

I work for a hospital and we had a problem of people driving on the sidewalk so we put in concrete planters. Less than a day later those planters were toast. In a hospital parking lot 😭 slow down pls

I do get annoyed when planters (or hedges) obscure the view when exiting a parking lot. But I dig the purpose

Never in the history of traffic control has adding a lane ever solved a traffic problem.

the body shops/body bags thing from #3 is also why cars aren't steel bodied anymore, crumple zones are worse for the car's survival but better for human lives surviving

how come getting a drivers licence isnt harder in America and more rigurous training to lower the accident rate? In Sweden its a longer process with crash/slip test as a must to pass.

The area where I live doesn't even have sidewalks in places where middle and high school kids are walking home from school. It's such a problem.

we need this so bad in Minnesota, but the city is run by a privately owned MET council, all our new developments become less and less accessible for the people

Folks keep hitting the bollards in my neighbourhood that protect the sidewalk. Drivers are mad they busted their fenders but don’t seem worried about the little children walking to school

Louisville Ky has right sized most of our pedestrian friendly roads. Every time they do it people complain but traffic improves. Check out our NULU Market St project. It’s awesome
