A few months ago, I made a video discussing how the Marine Corps was digitally adding the dress blue coat onto recruits’ photos during Boot Camp in San Diego. This practice was never implemented at Parris Island—only on the West Coast. However, as of December, the program has been completely discontinued. The Marine Corps stated it was a test program to evaluate its effectiveness, but based on the feedback I’ve heard, it wasn’t well received. Many were disappointed with how the photos turned out. Now, the process has returned to its original form—recruits will once again wear the half-coat and white cover for their official photos.
