I started off being a bit meh about this calendar – a candle and some Sephora minis felt a tad disappointing – but then it more than redeemed itself with a huge amount of full-size products. The fact there are 40 products in 25 boxes is also incredible value. I LOVE the Glossier You perfume, and I’m most excited about using the Paula’s Choice Booster. As the best advent calendars go, this is definitely up there. Below average hydration rise, average price, pretty average performance for the Nip + Fab Vitamin C Tonic. HOWEVER this toner isn’t for hydration; it’s for brightening your skin and getting rid of hyperpigmentation. Having used it for a few weeks now, it has made a difference but it does end up leaving my skin feeling a bit parched. It sits in 13th place in my best toner UK list. As with all my hydration tests, this was carried out on damp skin. HOWEVER this toner isn’t for hydration; it’s for brightening your skin and getting rid of hyperpigmentation. The r.e.m beauty lip balm didn’t just lock in hydration, it increased it by 7.8%. It’s not as glossy or slippery as the Glossier or Rhode lip balms and it feels like you haven’t got anything on your lips; it’s more velvety. I prefer my lip balms to have a bit of a shine to them so this isn’t my fave one but it’s still good and has a small amount of shimmer to it. It’s really really expensive per 10ml though. It’s still early days but I have started ranking the best lip balms on my Skincare Group Test spreadsheet. I also explain a bit about the methodology and potential pitfalls below so please read 🙏 Methodology Given that lip balms are for locking moisture in rather than hydrating, per se, and they create a barrier that would probably interfere with the little tester I’ve decided to do it this way: Measure the hydration Apply the lip balm Wait an hour to give the lip balm time to work Test how well hydrated my lips are at the end. I tried them all after five minutes and the readings were all over the place so I don’t think the original test format is going to work, hence this approach. Like with my other tests, it’s very far from perfect and the reader doesn’t have a setting for lips (it does have face, hand and eye) so take it with a pinch of salt please.
