Yep happened to me. My mum was told “girls don’t have adhd” that was 20 years ago. Yet was sent for hearing tests because “I don’t listen to hear the teacher” I had Inattentive adhd this whole time.

A doctor told me once when I was young that I only somewhat acted autistic because I copy my younger brothers and am around them so much and I believed it for way too long

My brother and I both sought autism diagnoses at the same time, he was 18 and I was 17. He was sent for diagnosis straight away, I was told by my GP she wouldn’t refer me because “girls don’t really get autism”. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I sought a diagnosis again at 39, diagnosed AuDHD. 22 years of medications and therapies that never worked and self hatred for nothing.

I feel like this is why I did so well during primary school but then failed massively in high school. all the added social stress on top of trying to stay on top of academics was so overwhelming. getting diagnosed at 30 felt like playing catch up

It would help if more doctors took the health complaints of women and girls seriously

I was diagnosed with BPD anxiety and depression at 16 meanwhile one of my brothers is diagnosed autistic and my other brother is diagnosed with ADHD. I was always treated like I was just overdramatic.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. I had an IEP and everything, but I didn’t get diagnosed with autism until last year at the age of 28. Life has been so frustrating!

My son has ADHD and it made me realize that he might have gotten it from me. Now I am seeing it in my daughter, but in an entirely different way. She experiences crippling anxiety and OCD.

My brother was tested but not treated as my parents thought adhd was fake and just an excuse for a boy to misbehave or to give him meds to drug him up so he’ll be quiet. It wasn’t until yeats after..

For me it was the different treatment I was diagnosed 18, brother 14. Family abandoned me and rejected the idea of a diagnosis calling it an excuse. Supported brother and accepted the diagnosis.

Work in an special school can count on one hand how many girls we have in the school, it’s so much harder to diagnose girls cause they just cope better apparently.
