@thelovelythings505: There is a special essence to If Beale Street Could Talk. Reading it doesn't even feel like reading. It flows so smoothly, and the story makes you feel as if you're a part of it. We are looking into the world of Beale Street, set in Harlem, New York, through the eyes of Tish. A young black woman who has always felt a little uncomfortable and unseen in the world. The only person who has ever made her truly feel seen is the love of her life, Fonny. Unfortunately, Fonny is currently in prison for a crime, which hasn't been revealed yet, and Tish has to carry the weight of everything that has happened. Using a stream of consciousness type of writing, we go back and forth between reality and flashbacks and even stories of other characters who play a role in the lives of Tish and Fonny. I am so invested in the story, and I love how Baldwin captures little details and describes such heartfelt moments. I can already tell that he is becoming one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to see what else happens in the story. Will Tish and Fonny be able to withstand all of the obstacles being thrown at their relationship?
