🕯️🌊 The Granite Lady of the Sound — Old Field Point Lighthouse Standing quietly on Long Island’s North Shore, overlooking Long Island Sound, is a beautiful piece of history: Old Field Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse station was established in 1823, and the first lighthouse was completed in 1824. For generations, keepers watched over the waters, tending the light that guided ships safely through the darkness. One of the most remarkable parts of its history is the women who served as lighthouse keepers. Elizabeth Smith served from 1830 to 1856 — an incredible 26 years. Mary A. Foster also served as keeper in 1869. Imagine the strength it took to live at the edge of the Sound, watching the storms roll in and knowing that ships far out on the water depended on that light. The present granite lighthouse was built in 1868–1869. Its massive walls have witnessed nearly two centuries of changing tides, storms, wars, and generations of people coming and going. In 1933, the lighthouse was deactivated and its navigational light was moved to a nearby tower. During World War II, the property was used by the Coast Guard for national defense. And then something beautiful happened… ✨ In 1991, the light returned to the lighthouse tower. After decades of darkness, the beacon was shining again. There is something deeply symbolic about that. A light can go quiet without being gone forever. Sometimes we walk through darkness. Sometimes life changes direction. Sometimes we feel as though our own light has disappeared. But the story of this lighthouse reminds us: The light can always return. 🕯️ You don’t have to chase the ships. You don’t have to control the tides. You simply have to keep your light burning. Be the lighthouse. Stand strong through the storms. And trust that even after the darkest night, there can be light again. 🌊✨ #enchantedrosemysticalartsllc #longisland #lighthouse #fyp #foryoupage
