Dr. Samson Lukare Kwaje  دكتور سامسون لوكارى كواجى  Dr. Samson Lukare Kwaje was a distinguished South Sudanese politician, agricultural expert, and senior leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM). Born on 23 July 1945, he belonged to the Pojulu community of Central Equatoria. He earned a master's degree in Plant Pathology from Makerere University, Uganda, in 1974, and a PhD in Agriculture from West Virginia University, USA, in 1979. Before joining the SPLM in the early 1990s, Dr. Kwaje served as director general of the Ministry of Agriculture (1983 - 1986) and later as Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in the Equatoria Regional Government (1986 - 1989). Within the SPLM, he became a member of its Political Bureau and served as the movement's official spokesperson from 1995 to 2004. He played a key role in the Naivasha peace negotiations and was among the signatories of the 2004 Power Sharing Protocol that led to the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). Following the establishment of the Government of Southern Sudan in 2005, Dr. Kwaje became the first Minister of Information and Broadcasting. In 2008, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and later headed the SPLM presidential campaign for Salva Kiir. On 15 November 2009, Dr. Kwaje was seriously wounded in an ambush near Juba. After several months of medical treatment, he passed away on 1 August 2010 at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. He is remembered as a dedicated public servant, respected statesman, and one of the key political figures who contributed to South Sudan's struggle for peace and self-government.
