Fan subs. Couldn’t find any merch. Glomping. Free hug signs. 4kids edits. I had to watch Chobits and Ouran originally on YouTube with fan subs. We made cosplay with cardboard!

man, I'm super old. we got our anime through torrents & they took days to download. or, you could find a bootleg at a con. or toonami. we also made our cosplay because you couldn't buy them anywhere.

When I got into anime, we were still 4 years out from YouTube, and I had to pay $20 for a 4 episode DVD, or go to Chinatown and get the pirated DVDs with the worlds most hilariously inaccurate subs

I feel you. I am old af and live in a place that isn't very "world commerce", so we had to wait for friends to go on vacay to nyc or cali, buy a questionab vhs, then record copies that we traded

I didn't even have YouTube or walmart. I had a few episodes on TV that I had to record off cable and if I wanted to buy vhs or DVDs I had to try to get to the city cause I lived in a small town 2 hours from the city and I had to look for the small obscure Asian store for vhs or DVDs and any kind of merch they had.
