Wait until the leafs turn brown and crispy, don’t plant so deep

Bulbs never do well because they’re second year onions. Try onion sets next time.

I dig a trench a few inches away from where the onions are and add fertilizer in the trench. Then fertilize every 2-3 weeks with blood meal or a fertilizer high in nitrogen.

It's WAYYYY to early to harvest bulbing onions! You harvest in May!

Smol Goth Shay :
Did you cut the scapes off? Onions (and garlic) grow scapes (the flowers) and they'll put all their energy into the scapes instead of the actual bulbs if you don't cut them!

Which hemisphere are you in? Typically onions require long sunlight hours, and are harvested in May/June for large bulbs. You’ll know when they’re read to harvest when the greens start to flop over.

I love freezing the green tops!!! Also, shallots from seeds are way better to grow IMO

I harvest mine in May in TX. Move soil away so they can bulb and amend with bone meal.
