I've always wondered about the chance with some of these creatures that seem to have been preserved in folklore if they may have been Lazarus taxa at an earlier time in history even if they are in fact now 100% extinct. If you're dealing with a small population & the odds of something actually being preserved versus broken down you never know. 🤔
