Charcoal Grilling 101 🔥 1. You don’t need a crazy grill. Get a simple weber and it gets the job done the same as a more expensive one. 2. Pick your charcoal, lump or briquettes. Lump is more natural, wood pieces that are differing sizes. It burns quicker and is more sensitive to oxygen, but is a cleaner way. Briquettes are man mad in forms from charcoal and also chemicals. They have more even and regulated burns and tend to produce more smoke, but note there are chemicals! 3. Light the charcoal in a chimney starter. I just use paper underneath to light it, but you can also use a charcoal starter. Wait until all the charcoal is lit and a white color before using. 4. Chose where you want to place the charcoal. I like zone grilling where charcoals are all on one side. You can also do direct grilling where charcoals are in the middle / all over. 5. Use the holes in the lid to control heat. Closed = less heat because oxygen is trapped. Open = more heat because oxygen is feeding the coals. I love this way of grilling and will never go back to gas!
