The hill I will die on is that Gandalf isn’t a PC class because all of his abilities are innate abilities from his race (istar). HOWEVER, if you were to make him a PC, this comes pretty close

I think I'm still in the Divine Soul camp but even if you weren't doing a vanilla run (which makes sense, bonus points for ✨ Creativity ✨), you'd still have to multiclass for the sword 🤔

Yeah no the god he was closest to was manwe eru is the creator deity far beyond any warlock patron and warlock still does not fit but its a cool idea hope u enjoy the run 😅

I always saw him as more of a light cleric maybe with Paladin. he gets his power from a god and his own resolve, uses fire, and inspires those around him(bless, guidance, etc)

I would heavily argue he's a sorcerer cause Gandalf isn't a mortal - he's a being made of illuvitars magic (right?) being made of magic and it draining him to use makes more sense for a dnd sorcerer

Wizard in LotR isn't comparable with how the word is used in DnD. it's more like a title meaning "sage, philosopher, well-educated person". Tolkien was a philologist 1st, and he used words very intentionally. a Sorlock with a Sage background seems like the closest you can get to Gandalf in DnD
