The hill I will die on is that Gandalf isn’t a PC class because all of his abilities are innate abilities from his race (istar). HOWEVER, if you were to make him a PC, this comes pretty close

YOOOOOOO THATS MY COMMENT. I actually love this explanation, respect. also just wanted to make sure there was no attitude in that comment, I got worried by the way it was worded hahaha

I think I'm still in the Divine Soul camp but even if you weren't doing a vanilla run (which makes sense, bonus points for ✨ Creativity ✨), you'd still have to multiclass for the sword 🤔

Pact of the blade warlock works well for Gandalf imo yeah

Gandalf never made a pact with Ilúvatar though, his power comes from a god and that would make him a cleric

Yeah no the god he was closest to was manwe eru is the creator deity far beyond any warlock patron and warlock still does not fit but its a cool idea hope u enjoy the run 😅

I always saw him as more of a light cleric maybe with Paladin. he gets his power from a god and his own resolve, uses fire, and inspires those around him(bless, guidance, etc)

I would heavily argue he's a sorcerer cause Gandalf isn't a mortal - he's a being made of illuvitars magic (right?)
being made of magic and it draining him to use makes more sense for a dnd sorcerer

this is a solid pick and one i wouldn't have thought of! I would have gone bladesinger but this makes a lot of sense

Gandalf'spower does not come from a God directly he was created by Eru judt like everything else and was given innate power.

I personally believe he’d have levels in divine soul sorcerer but bc that’s not in bg3 fair enough.

Wizard in LotR isn't comparable with how the word is used in DnD. it's more like a title meaning "sage, philosopher, well-educated person". Tolkien was a philologist 1st, and he used words very intentionally. a Sorlock with a Sage background seems like the closest you can get to Gandalf in DnD

Without listening to the explanation o think warlock really works for Gandalf, to my understanding his powers are given to him, now excuse me I have to finish the video.
