Even in its current state, the fact she is floating, and did what she was designed to do should give them all a hint that she wants to be preserved.

What I don't get is why sink her? She's been uncared for, for 30 years and is still floating. Modern ships would have issues. Yes I know getting the steam engines in the SS United States up and running would cost a lot but it would work well. Plus ships now look (how do I put it)... boring. This ship is just breathtaking even now given its age. I wish it could be saved.

I live in Mobile and saw her when they brought her in to dock yesterday. It brought tears to my eyes. I actually work right next door to where she is docked. Absolutely breathtaking and it is so sad she can’t be saved. Attaching pictures I took yesterday.

Everyone saying to restore her obviously has never worked on a ship. It’s not a one time thing or even a once a year thing it is a constant battle. This ship is obsolete and too far gone.

That ship was built in the shipyard down the street from me. What has happened to it is a tragedy. It should have been declared a national monument and made into a living museum/hotel.
