Aboard the Abashiri Drift Ice Ship “Aurora” I recently had the incredible experience of boarding the drift ice sightseeing ship Aurora in Abashiri. As the ship broke through the frozen sea, I was mesmerized by the breathtaking sight of the vast Okhotsk Sea covered in ice. From the deck, an endless expanse of drift ice stretched out before me, resembling a frozen landscape. Occasionally, seals would appear among the ice, their adorable presence adding to the magic of the journey. With a backdrop of blue skies and drifting clouds, the contrast between the icy white scenery and the sky was simply stunning. In the distance, the snow-covered Shiretoko Mountains stood majestically, complementing the beauty of the frozen sea. The interplay of ice, mountains, and sky created an unforgettable winter spectacle unique to the Okhotsk region. This experience deepened my appreciation for the wonders of winter in Hokkaido.
