@avpay: Handley page a small independent british aircraft manufacturer identified in the early 1960s a need for a small airliner to carry between 12 and 18 passengers to meet requirements of the united states commuter and regional ailiner market First assembly took place at the Radlett in Hertfordshire with sub-contract work being undertaken by Scottish Aviation Ltd at its Prestwick base. Development continued with the Jetstream from 1967 until Handley Page faced bankruptcy and the company folded in 1970. Thereafter Scottish Aviation Ltd continued development of the type. In February 1972, the Royal Air Force ordered 26 Jetstream Tis to be used as multi-engine trainers to replace the Vickers Varsity aircraft. 14 of these aircraft were modified as T2s for the Royal Navy as observer navigation training aircraft. Production of the Jetstream T1 ceased in 1975. The type was further developed by British Aerospace between 1980 and 1997, producing 486 examples of the Jetstream 31 and Jetstream 41.
