I love the Takoma Park community, so many small owned businesses and it still gives a historic feel

Girl, I know you are not describing DC as being vibrant and locally focused at any point past the early 2000s when Verizon Center took over Chinatown

So many local options in Arlington: Simona Cafe, Three Whistles, Kaldi’s Northside Social, Detour. Hate seeing so many people at Tatte/Starbs/Dunkin

I also think DC has very few “locals” it is a city full of transplants. Many quaint small biz are family run & passed down to next generations and DC just doesn’t have that like other cities NY, etc.

The commercial developments are catering to big business, stacked with the real estate prices, it’s been impossible

I don’t think this is a DC specific problem. You can see the same thing in Philly - PE is changing urban landscapes nationally & that won’t be stopping under Trump

I live in DC and never go to Tatte, DD, Starbs etc. it’s a choice. I literally live on the same street as a Tatte. I walk to local spots.

Yess we need to raise awareness about this and keep supporting small business!
The food here is brutal, you can taste that they all use the same suppliers. But also the prices are crazy here. Starbucks is one of the cheaper options for coffee

We are forced on the outskirts of DC, we are a small business (little pink food truck) located in Temple Hills, Maryland only 10 minutes from DC. We invite all to come visit us 💕

Also gentrification- Shaw used to be vibrant due to go-go music/culture, then transplants started moving in and complained about the sound 🫠

Let’s not forget DC based compass coffee disappointing us all by union busting and hurting employees despite getting millions from covid $
