Also-only highlighting the dancers who can do tricks. Some dancers can execute choreography amazingly and they won’t get a special part because they’re “not flexible” or “not a good jumper”

my sister had an aerial & gorgeous leg holds at age 7, she was featured in every. single. petite. group. until she was 11 bc she was so small. i was OVER it!!!!

But question… I mean this in the most respectful way possible. Why if judges notice this do those dances get awarded the highest? It seems like I hear judges make these comments but they win everytime.

My daughter always has a leg hold if she gets a solo part but that’s cos hers is so beautiful. But it’s not every routine. Maybe 1 routine a year

watching the same 1 dancer do the, while yes stunning, exact same turn sequence, centre stage while using all other dancers as backup dancers in allllll ur group routines…ik they can turn by now girl

YES!!!! How can we try to avoid this? As a judge would you rather see different kids get highlighted doing those tricks? Or would it be better for different kids to do different choreo?

I worked for a studio once who had three girls who were the turners. I swear, there was one year they did three turns in second, pull in, three more, float, pull in, calypso, in everything.

Yes! Color Guard actually has a scoring category to provent this called Vocabulary. Vocabulary is the amount of tricks and variations is our choreography as well as how often moves are reused -

What about when studios have the same solo moves in every solo. Same moves different girl, different song. I work so hard to make sure no one can tell a “Dana solo”

Yes!!!! My daughter’s studio does this so bad! I wish they would mix it up for all the kids. All of the kids have strengths they could tap into. Thank you for calling this out!!

That’s why I chose a “convention” studio for my dancer when she was younger. Conventions shows more skill sets and push the dancer as opposed to competition dance! Now she’s a college dancer!!

No because, realistically I am not impressed that ONE dancer can do a perfect extension or turn sequence. Tells you the studio isn’t doing a bunch of teaching tbh
