Today, a 58-year-old came to my eye clinic with: ✅ Blurred vision at far AND near ✅ Headaches ✅ Tearing, itchy eyes, light sensitivity ✅ Occasional floaters We performed a Complete Comprehensive Eye Exam, not just a basic vision check. 🔍 Here’s what we found: ⚠️ Suspected Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Based on OCT and retinal photography findings ⚠️ Suspected Hypertensive Retinopathy Based on an abnormal AV ratio ➕ Grade 1 cataract 🚩 Why this matters: If left unmanaged, macular degeneration and hypertensive retinopathy can lead to permanent vision loss. This is why, in eye care, prevention is always better than cure. 👁️ Aside from internal eye disease, we also found: • Moderate dry eyes • Severely poor depth perception • Low to moderate myopia • Presbyopia (age-related near blur) ✅ Our management plan: 1️⃣ Targeted nutritional support to help protect the macula, retina, optic disc, and crystalline lens, using evidence-based nutrients: • Omega-3 • Alpha Lipoic Acid • Lutein + Zeaxanthin • Bilberry • Pycnogenol / Mirtogenol • Chromium Picolinate 2️⃣ Dry eye management with eyedrops containing Sodium Hyaluronate, electrolytes, and Trehalose 3️⃣ Proper vision correction using eyeglasses or specialty lenses (RGP / Hybrid / Scleral), depending on visual needs and lifestyle needs. 4️⃣ Although the patient has severely poor depth perception, vision therapy was not required at this time, since he has no history of falls, accidents, or difficulty with daily tasks. This will be closely monitored. 👩‍⚕️ A reminder for adults 40 and above: Headaches, floaters, glare, tearing, and blur are not always harmless, and may often involve the retina and optic nerve, not just glasses. A regular eye check is NOT enough. You need a Complete Comprehensive Eye Exam that looks beyond eyeglasses checks.
