Soulful Sides Series #1 🥰✨ Had to start off with my mamas candied yams 🍠 that she’d make religiously around this time of year. I already know y’all are about to get up in these comments about the sugar, DO WHAT YOU WANT CHILD, I don’t have the mental space to argue today. 😭😭🤣. these are really tasty and easy to make!! Give them a try this thanksgiving. Recipe below! 👇🏾 • • Mamas Candied Yams Ingredients: - 2.5LBs of red sweet potato - 3/4 Cup brown sugar - 1 cup granulated sugar - 1 tsp salt - 2-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp ground ginger - 1/2 ground nutmeg - 1 TB vanilla extract - 1 tsp salt - 1 stick butter - 1/3 cup apple juice or orange juice Instructions: 1. preheat your oven to 375F 2. Peel your yams and cut them into 2 inch thick slices. (I like mine a little thicker so they don’t break up as easily but if you want you can cut them thinner.) 3. Place the sweet potatoes into a greased casserole dish while you make your sauce. 4. In a sauce pan add the sugars, butter, spices, extract, salt and juice of choice. Cook over medium low heat until the sugar and butter have melted together. 5. Pour the sugar mixture over the sweet potatoes and toss with a spoon to make sure all the potatoes get covered in some of the sauce. 6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes before removing from the oven and giving the sweet potatoes a toss, making sure to coat each potato again in the sauce. Cover again and return to the oven for another 30-45 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender and the sauce is nice and bubbly. 7. Remove from the oven and gently toss the Potatoes again to coat once more in the sauce. Let them cool for Atleast 15 minutes before serving. The glaze will cool and thicken on the potatoes. Enjoy! • #Recipe #fyp #candiedyams #sweetpotato #thanksgiving #sidedish #fall #fallrecipes #foodblog #thekitchn #soulfood #comfortfood #explore #explorepage #dinner #recipeshare
