@monet.izabeth: DAY THREE solo in Norway 🇳🇴 Today was the day the whole expedition could have been cut REAL SHORT. Instead, it became the day I learned the most important lesson of this expedition: what risks NOT to take when you are alone in the wilderness. When I saw how steep the hill was, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make it up. I didn’t factor in that IF I did not make it up, the consequences could include injury or worse. When I got stuck so close to the top, I wasn’t in danger of dying but there was a large possibility that I would injure myself enough trying to get back down with two dangling sleds that I would need to end my expedition. That night on my evening check in with @adehawkins we talked about what I could have done differently, including 1) creating a pulley system out of rope and a prusik to pull my sleds up or 2) separating my sleds and taking them up one by one or 3) finding another route around. There are some moments when you push yourself and afterwards think “wow I’m so glad I did that—it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought it would be!” and other times when you go “holy baloney I NEVER want to be in that situation again” This was the latter and I’m so thankful Hokon showed up when he did! P.S Finse is a small town so if anyone knows Hokon (sp?) and sees this please pass on my gratitude to him again & again
