Trigger warning: Talks about MMIW and DV ‼️ I’ll tell ya, I’m not one to get into Facebook feuds. But I draw the line when I see people joke around about important Native social justice issues. As you can see, just a little recap: I called out a problematic Navajo man on Facebook after seeing a very disturbing clip of him on TikTok. His stand up comedy joke was directed towards proclaiming to have found a missing woman and referred to her as a “tweaker bitch.” In the past, I remember a few women that I won’t name, that came forward about their disturbing experiences with Josh Gonnie. (E.g., messaging young Native women, hypersexualizing, ridiculing, etc). So coming across this video, I was livid. I watch people support this man silently throughout the year. But I had enough. When my post gained traction, there were a diverse reactions. Many of which contribute to the protection of predatory behavior and victim blaming many women who do come forward. Triggered, Josh Gonnie proceeded to call me out and use scare tactics to ensure that I would stop speaking about him. Let me assure everyone and let me say this, Josh Gonnie, I’m not scared of you or any predator that hides behind the silencing & policing of our Native people. Our missing women, girls, relatives deserve more than to be a butt of some stand up comedy joke. Ask yourselves the question, how long will it be before you hold mysogynistic men accountable for their actions? Think about how our missing women that are gone no longer have a chance to. Believe Native women, Believe our LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit who do come forward. Stop glorifying problematic Native men. #nativetiktok
