I’m really nervous to talk about this. I don’t wanna toot my own horn, but I do want to share this story. 💚 Last spring, the pyro community nicknamed me “The Color Queen” during a masterclass I taught in that was all about adding color to pyrography art where we talked all about different kinds of color medias- watercolors, acrylics, brush pens, gel pens, etc. Personally, I use a ton of vibrant, bold, rich colors in my art and that really makes my work pop & stand out! This is a trademark of my style that I am known for. However, when people in the chat started calling me The Color Queen I was like “awh shucks stoppit you guys.” Internally I was like “lol they’re so funny, I’m not a color expert. I just rlly like color.” Idk. I just didn’t see myself as an authority or leader figure in the color world for wood art. But as I’ve continued to grow as an artist and meet more and more pyros in this art space, it has become evident to me that you actually really do see me as a color expert! People are in my DMs all the time asking advice about color or how-tos about color. How do I do this? How do I use that? How did you do XYZ? Over this past year I’ve realized: I AM a color expert. I have SO. MUCH. EXPERIENCE with color. I’ve used dozens of medias. I can tell you all about it. I can teach color for DAYS and talk about it for HOURS. Color is my FAVORITE part of my art form. I think I will allow myself to accept this position in your eyes. It’s hard for me to do, because I still look up to other people and see others more as experts than I am. I think that’s normal though. Mentors also have mentors. Therapists have their own therapists. Experts see others as experts. Adults see other adults are more adulty adults than they are 😂 So I think I’m finally ready and confident enough in myself and knowledge to start teaching about color, offering classes + courses, and sharing everything I know and love about color with you. Now that this personal story is out there, do you relate? I’d love to hear about your insecurity success and growth too- feel free to chat in the comments below! Cheers to growing 🥂🎨🔥 #woodburningart #learningwoodburning #makeartonwood #itsdavidandrenee
