Manufacturers recommendations on air pressure will help fuel economy, wear and tear, etc. tire companies will give you a max air pressure rating. Some like the 🛞 tires FIRM

Most tires are between 32 and 34 psi. Some of the larger tires or performance tires. Can go up to 50 PSI. Although you should check manufacturer recommendations. & adjust pressure to road conditions

tire may say 55psi but the car might be too heavy for that amount of pressure so when you hit a pothole they go bang. you go as per the cars specification not tire rating

I always fill tires to what the tire manufacturer says, not the car. The tires are not likely what came on the car and may need to be inflated to a different pressure to perform correctly.
