My daughter died suddenly at 33. I felt I’d lived a charmed life up until then. I realize now that it was quite shallow. It has been almost 8 years and I am still evolving into this new reality.

thank u for this. my sister had two husbands die before she was 50. one cancer - one an aneurysm. i cannot tell u the amount of people at that funeral that told her “everything happens for a reason”.

You're so right. I can't stand that. Toxic positivity is so dismissive. What we're living thru right now is very serious and real damage is being done.

I am sorry. I have had someone who refused to do the work in a relationship with me but thought they would meditate it away (escapism). there is nothing wrong with meditation and everything right

Shit needs to be felt, acknowledged, ruminated on, and finalized how to live with it. Refusing to process brings zero emotional maturity.

Anyone who says “better days are ahead” at this particular time is living in denial or is not paying attention. Sure, it’s possible someday, but certainly not any time soon.

100%, this is my Mother to a T. I’ve never been able to have a conversation of ANY depth with her that I can ever remember.

40 years ago, I lost a baby at six months gestation, you won’t believe the platitudes I got. Now I’m 70 and I’m still not over my loss. So much for Hallmark.😞

Ah yes, the Facebook platitudes of 8 years ago, in cute little digital frames. Always welcome, poignant, all encompassing, and well thought out. 🤣

This could NOT be more true. I spend massive amounts of my energy avoiding feeling the moment. But, in the end, I NEVER get around it. I have to swim through it to get to the other side. I’m learning.

I think I understand why my sister has been ignoring my mother now. She doesn't want to see that our mom, who had a big stroke, and begging stages of dementia, is changing!

Very insightful post, and I think social media has made this even worse. Everyone trying to make their life look so wonderful all the time and so many trying to keep up. 😢

I know more than one woman that has the toxic positivity thing going. If you look at their social media posts, you would think they were "living the dream" but in reality, they are not happy one bit

I am confused.
I spend a lot of time trying not to be.
I want to learn
I wish to acknowledge that I'm thankful for what you share... Out of the goodness of your heart... No charge!
But I'm confused.

Not accepting reality! I really think it’s a Southern Upbringing from our Mother’s. I despise that outlook because they can’t handle TRUTH 😳
