French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to discuss how France’s nuclear deterrent could contribute to European security amid concerns over a potential U.S. retreat from NATO and the threat from Russia.  EU leaders are meeting in Brussels for an emergency summit to discuss Ukraine’s future and European defense, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to launch negotiations with Vladimir Putin to end the war.  The U.S. has cut off intelligence-sharing with Ukraine, freezing the use of key long-range missiles such as Himars, and has conditioned the resumption of support on Ukraine agreeing to peace talks with Russia. U.S. President Donald Trump issued a “last warning” to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages in Gaza and threatening unspecified consequences while reaffirming full support for Israel.  The North American Electric Reliability Corporation warned that restricting electricity and gas trade between the U.S. and Canada in response to new U.S. tariffs could destabilize both nations’ energy grids.  A Chinese naval fleet led by the Type 055 destroyer Zunyi has nearly completed its circumnavigation of Australia, passing near a strategically significant base in Western Australia where the U.S. attack submarine USS Minnesota is docked. 🗓️ March 6, 2025
