@abc7chicago: A giant Pacific octopus made a group of friends’ day when they spotted the creature in a tide pool on the coast of northern Washington recently. This video filmed by Micah Moeller shows the eight-armed cephalopod leaving Moeller and his friends in disbelief as it swims in just a few feet of water near Bellingham, Washington. “I’ve never seen anything like it!” said Moeller in his original Instagram post. The giant Pacific octopus can grow to nearly 20 feet across, and is found throughout the northern Pacific Ocean, its habitat extending from Korea to Mexico, according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. #news #pacificoctopus #octopus #washington

Octopuses have 33,000 genes, which is about 10,000 more than humans.
Their genetic makeup is so different that they might as well be considered aliens
