Do you know the difference between an artist manager and a booking agent? I began my career as an artist manager thinking I could do it all, I quickly learned performing the role of artist manager AND booking agent were two separate jobs. The artist manager’s role can vary, it’s a role of overseeing the artist’s career and ensuring you spot opportunities that align with their goals and vision for their career. Whereas a booking agent tends to be solely for sourcing, securing bookings and assisting with the execution of artist tours. Agents will also have input into the artist strategy with their management team to ensure everyone is headed in the same direction. Traditionally, artists tend to secure management first with the view to bringing on booking agents once demand grows. Eventually expanding the bookings team for different geographical territories. Although we’re now seeing a variety of different setups to suit the artist’s aims and objectives. The artist manager will be the point of contact between agents and artists. Ensuring everyone is focused on overseeing the implementation of the artist booking strategy.
