Does he ever accidentally make physical contact with you? You could try carrying treats in a pouch, and any time he even barely brushes against you, drop some treats! You want to be the treat god!

As a lifelong “dog person” who now loves and has a cat - seeing cat people keep and love their cat who doesn’t reciprocate that is amazing. Most dog people would give them away if they didn’t worship

Lie down next to him, since you're more or less the same size, he'll feel less intimidated. You can also slowly approach him with your extended hand with some cat treats so he knows you can be trusted
