Nicolas Cage looks almost unrecognizable as football legend John Madden in the upcoming biopic Madden. The actor says the change took more than a new hairstyle and makeup. At the film’s premiere on November 4, Cage explained that he gained 25 pounds for the role. He joked that pasta and sourdough bread became part of the process, even though they were not usually in his routine. He also described having two protein shakes and one meal a day while preparing for the part. Cage said he did not want to gain 60 pounds, especially at age 62, so the rest of the larger look was created with prosthetics. He worked with makeup artist Adrien Morot on a mix of physical changes and special effects. Cage compared the method to the approach used for Brendan Fraser in The Whale. After filming, Cage said he lost the added weight and returned to regular workouts on an elliptical machine. He described the role as a beautiful experience, but also a major challenge because he did not naturally picture himself as John Madden. The actor said advice from David Bowie about never getting too comfortable with one’s work stayed with him. That idea helped him take on a role far outside his usual image. Madden is scheduled to reach select theaters on November 11 before streaming on Prime Video on November 18. The transformation is already giving viewers a striking first look at Cage’s latest reinvention. Do you think Nicolas Cage is a good choice to play John Madden? #NicolasCage #JohnMadden #MaddenMovie #MovieNews #hollywood
