People make these comments from the context of their experiences where people are reasonable & able to see when they’re wrong. Some of us r no contact w/ family who won’t see their errors or change.

My dad forgot my birthday for many years. I kept waiting all day to hear from him. But he actually trapped me at therapy to talk to me. And we are doing much better. But my mom is a different story
