"I Write to You Not as a Politician, but as a Son": Adam Besigye Appeals for His Father's Freedom Adam Ampa Besigye, the son of Dr. Kizza Besigye, has made an emotional public appeal to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba following his father's collapse in court. Describing the moment as heartbreaking, Adam said no son should have to watch his father collapse while standing before the justice system of the country he once served. He said he was speaking not as a politician, but simply as a son pleading for compassion. In his appeal, Adam urged the President and Gen. Muhoozi to show mercy by allowing Dr. Besigye to regain his freedom. He said his family firmly believes Dr. Besigye is innocent of the charges against him and has never sought to harm the President or his family. According to Adam, his father has always pursued political change through his convictions, even when those beliefs placed him in opposition to the government. Adam expressed deep concern over his father's declining health, warning that Uganda risks losing one of its most recognised political figures. He argued that this moment presents an opportunity for the country to demonstrate that justice and humanity are stronger than political rivalry. He further appealed for Dr. Besigye to receive appropriate medical care and all protections guaranteed under the law, while asking that humanitarian considerations be given to his continued detention. He pleaded for his father's release so he could return to his family and loved ones. Concluding his appeal, Adam said he does not wish to inherit bitterness, but hopes for reconciliation and a Uganda where political differences are resolved through justice rather than suffering.
