as someone who started chicken tending just a few years ago (2019) this is 💯 fact. having chickens because you want free eggs is like wanting a car so you don't have to pay for the bus or taxi

Most expensive "free" eggs ever. I got 5 chicks this year to add to my tiny flock because my 2 ladies are 8 and 11 years old and don't really lay anymore.

They’re really making a mess for us local farms producing eggs. I had to fight to get my replacement chicks this season. I have a self service egg station at my farm, and I sellout everyday.
