@grillinwithdad: Here are my 5 tips for making the perfect smash burgers at home. 1. Weight out the ground meat. I like using 3 oz portions. Loosely roll them into balls and pop them in the fridge for 20 minutes before cooking. 2. Get your grill or skillet or cast iron or whatever you’re using hot. Let it preheat for 10-15 minutes before cooking. 3. This one is important. Smash AND HOLD. Hold it down for 5 seconds to get the best sear on the bottom of your patties. If you smash and release, the patty will curl up and won’t get as good of a crust. 4. Use American cheese. It’s the best melting cheese for smash burgers, or honestly any kind of burger. 5. Keep the toppings simple. The best part of the smash burger is the crust and sear on the patty. Don’t overpower it with too many toppings.
