I think we conflate Black British and Black American experiences too much, to be honest. For example, the Tignon law you mention stems from slavery. We don't have an equivalent here.

I think it's simply 4c hair takes work it's not always giving versatility and in a world where your hair is not represented as fashion forward why not experiment. Wigs are part of black hair

Tell em! I love a wig but the issue is when one feels like they can’t wear their hair natural, we’ve assimilated too much chile, we need to unlearn these Eurocentric beauty standards and stay woke!!!

When I realised my hair grew faster when I left it alone in its natural state, compared to having it in “protective styles” was really freeing! Traction alopecia from wigs & braids is so common

It’s soo true I literally only wear wigs to retain more length. But I wear my natural hair too. Once my hair hits the length I want I won’t be wearing a wig again.

Honestly, i think it would be different if they were wearing wigs that replicated our texture then i could be a length issue and wanting to experiment which is normal and while it is normal to want to try out new textures as well, why not ... if you are only wearing or only wear straight wigs to the point of not seeing your hair at all then in my opinion there's definitely some insecurities there.

I agree and I am someone who is wearing a wig 98% of the time in public. my hair Is thin and not that long. I dont like it. but I will wear afro or curly hair wigs because the hair is big. I like big
