My dad was unavailable just like his dad. A lot was put on my mom. She didn’t always shine. Of us, I most reminded her of him. She never learned to cope with his neglect. She took it out on us.

Having non nurturing, abusive or inhibiting parents is unfair to say the least. But one thing is for certain, it pales in comparison to growing up "Ghetto" and living with and near dangerous people.
