@sophiemorrisofficial: The labelling of honey really needs to be regulated more as people should be able to know where the honey they’re buying is coming from! Just like we know where our fruit, veg, and meat in the supermarket comes from. What you’ll see when you look at the standard supermarket honeys on the shelves is that they are a blend of Non-EU honey or a blend of EU & Non-EU honey and the reason suppliers are blending the honey from different countries is because they are buying the cheapest honey they can find and then mixing it together. Most of the Non-EU honey is coming from countries like China, Vietnam & India, and we also import significant amounts of cheap honey from Ukraine but this information never appears on the label of supermarket jars as the country of origin. So we just don’t really know what we’re getting when we buy the standard supermarket honey on the shelves! If you want to buy good quality honey, read the label and find one that says it’s unblended and states the country of origin so that you know your honey is coming from just one place, just like with this Mileeven honey which you can get in Tesco and is a lovely Irish brand. Molaga is another great Irish brand you can get in Tesco. It’s also raw honey which is rich in antioxidants, vitamins & minerals and has antibacterial properties. For my UK followers, do the same with the label and there should be some unblended, single origin honey options in the big supermarkets. Even better to get top quality honey is to seek out a local beekeeper and buy directly from them, you will definitely find some online! I’m lucky enough to have a good friend who happens to also be a beekeeper in Wicklow 😍 called @lovethebees.ie_ and have been able to get some gorgeous honey from her!
