That’s why a rental tenancy association is so important. There must be a break lease clause that protects the tenants, not just the landlord.

I "broke my lease" about a month ago when I had 5 months left. But I got away with it because 1) they had written record of me consistently complaining about a bug problem. and 2) they had given me a 30 days to pay notice on my door because rent was short in January (a church had promised to pay a portion cuz hubby had just lost his job. they never paid) and no one reached out for months and it kept getting late fees. the notice had a termination of lease date.

Not sure how student housi g works but i just left my apartment. They sent me a paper saying what i owed but i just never paid🤷♀️😅
