As an autistic person I can say it’s just something that happens with no triggers or reason. I liked trains, then race cars, then back to trains, then guitar, then trains. It’s when he shows no interest in anything that you should be worried.

Even the neurotypical child at that age isn’t capable of identifying what it is their feeling. It’s OK to go with it and follow his lead. It doesn’t have to mean anything. ❤️

Hi! I counsel kids with autism. Instead of direct conversation or “small talk” try using pictures or visuals for check ins with emotions. Google emotion wheel/needs wheel and to an AM /PM check in

As someone with autism, it’s a natural thing many tend to do, I do it! Not necessarily due to life changes/stress/discomfort. I’ll randomly become re-interested in old interests, for me it’s a cycle:)

He’s growing but to him it may be scary. Baby shark is his comfort. Maybe it will take some time for him to show you what he needs. Easy to say but hard to do, don’t stress it if he’s not stressed

My son is on the spectrum. He did the same thing with Thomas the train. Let it play out ....and he will move on. Just keep introducing new things regardless how frustrating it gets.
