One thing I’ll never say to my son is… “Don’t be afraid.” Or this one… “There’s nothing to be scared of.” I heard phrases like this growing up and it made me feel like something was wrong with me for feeling fear. How dare I feel a naturally occurring human emotion! 😅😂 Whenever we say phrases like this to our children, it actually makes them feel MORE fearful. They don’t feel safe in their bodies. They feel ashamed and begin to suppress themselves. Instead of telling them to NOT feel something (which is actually just a reflection of your own wounding and discomfort with fear), let them know that’s it’s safe to be scared. It’s ok! You can be scared AND courageous. Allowing them to feel safe with feeling fear (and all emotions) will empower them. I’ve coached 100’s of people and all of them are afraid of their own fear. They grew up believing that fear was evil, weak, wrong, etc. They’ve been running from their fear for so long that as soon as they begin to welcome their fear back into their life with love and acceptance, they become wayyy less fearful. If you want your kids to grow up feeling empowered, courageous, and confident… Then start encouraging them to feel their fear (not shame it or run from it). And most importantly!! 🌟 You must redefine your relationship with your own fear. Because we all know they follow our example, not what we just tell them. Parents… I’d love to hear from you. Was this helpful? I’m thinking about starting a group for parents who want to empower their kids to be courageous and confident. Not fearful and anxious. Let me know what topics or situations you want to learn more about! P.S. as you can see from this video… Alchemizing (aka transforming) our fear can be FUN! And enjoyable. It’s the most freeing thing you’ll ever do. #consciousparenting #parenthood #raisingkids
