This comes after Ukraine agreed to an immediate 30-day ceasefire if Russia does. Marco Rubio says that the ball is now in Russia’s court. It’s unclear if Russia will accept this, but experts are asking.. even if they do… They’ve broken 25 ceasefires in 11 years… Why would this be any different? The historical record shows that every single time in the past Russia has broken the ceasefire and blamed Ukraine for it. Western security officials say that Putin has made deliberately maximalist demands ahead of negotiations to end the war - which they say, he knows will likely be unacceptable to Ukrainians and other Europeans. This assessment contradicts Trump’s belief that Putin wants peace. So the two big questions ahead are whether or not Russia will agree to the ceasefire and whether they’ll respect it. Russia's Duma Deputy says that the US will just rearm Ukraine during the 30 day ceasefire so Russia will not go for it. But we will see what Putin has to say.
