I bet the data would suggest that that engine will last a lot longer with the orginal oil filter system just from the fact that people that buy those small mowers don’t do any maintenance.

shop vac in the oil fill will keep it from leaking when you pull the plug to install the extension

you can just double nut the Briggs one with thin nuts to install and you won't risk the threads

There are a bunch of filters that fit that base from various cars, some are twice the size and cheep. Personally use fram xg series
