It’s baffling how military members don’t realize the heavily inflated budget is for the contractors not the personnel

I'm a veteran, most of the money goes to the contractors and the weapon suppliers

They have so much surplus equipment that they give it to local PDs. Like why does the University of South Florida need 7 apache helicopters 🚁?

Currently serving. The mil spending is wild 100%. But some ppl do think those serving reap the benefits and I assure you we absolutely do not. It goes to nonsense, not the service members.

I remember during GW Bush we heard about equipment being destroyed in Iraq because they just “didn’t need” it. I can’t imagine how much worse it is now.

But we aren’t trying to look at that budget or department 🥴

Vet here. I still have gear I never needed, but if the unit didn’t spend the ✨ entire ✨ budget, the budget would be reduced next year.

I was in the AF and many people in the military don’t understand this concept.

Also the incredible amount of money that goes to the CEOs. Of course it makes sense for the equipment to break easily, it’s cheaper to replace and give executives bonuses for continuing the contract.

When the rich want to cut waste, they don't mean what we mean. The waste we see is what makes their profits. They want to cut services because they don't make money off of.

also aren't there like 50 lawmakers who vote on defense appropriations who are also directly invested in defense contractors, literally paying themselves

It's not about money going to the military to be well equipped or more effective. It's about paying contracts

The contractors are storing the “stockpile” and the amount of money they quoted the military/gov to inventory it all was cost prohibitive so they choose to fail the audits rather than incur the fees.

Vet here and I agree. But Phrank’s not wrong in that the Marines never get the nice, new stuff. They just get everybody else’s leftovers.

I can’t begin to explain they way my soul left my body when I was told by 2 different service members they just dump extra shit they don’t use/need so they can increase the budget year after year

Then when the stuff they do use breaks (often) it’s suddenly not in the budget to fix it

I was in the army, and my unit always got new things, we’d use it for a year or two, and they would send it to other units, and we’d get new stuff.

If we cut the military budget by half and just forced the US military to use their massively over-inflated budget more effectively… literally nothing would change for the average soldier.

That money is either lost in a BLACK BUDGET or sent to some break-away society beyond Antarctica somewhere.
