Hey Homestead Tribe! Let’s make Famers Cheese!! This is our first cheese we ever made! Think of a cheese that crumbles like feta, but tastes mild like mozzerella. The process is easy and the results are delicious! Use in lasagna, salads, cheese spread on crackers, or even pizza! Everything tastes better homemade and this proves it! Plus if you ever run out of cheese and have milk and vinegar on hand this is such an easy to make cheese! As a community, let’s start making cheese along with our other foods! Without all the dyes and added poisons. There’s no better way to rebel against our current food system than to make healthy foods at home! Recipe: * 1/2 gallon Whole Milk * 1/4 cup vinegar * Salt to taste Directions: Pour milk into a deep pot. On medium heat, bring to a slight boil while stirring occasionally to prevent scalding. Once at a slight boil (or about 180 degrees F) Turn off heat and pour in vinegar, stirring once. Prepare a strainer lined with folded cheesecloth and place into a bowl or lasagna dish. When curds stop forming (usually about 5 minutes) pour contents into prepared strainer. Let cool in cheesecloth until contents are not hot to the touch. Form cheese into a ball inside cheesecloth and squeeze out the moisture (whey). Look inside the cheesecloth and check for a crumbly texture. If it breaks apart easy, then wrap cheese back up and place in fridge for about an hour before consuming (to firm up). Serve with a sprinkle of salt and other seasonings of your choice! Enjoy!
