@sineadbovell: We should be preparing kids for life, not jobs. Because the reality is most of the jobs young kids in school today see will be radically transformed by the time they get to a working age. Instead, we need to set kids up to thrive in a dynamic future underscored by rapid advancements in technology. We need to equip them with a broad understanding of the technologies they will be working and living alongside, the skills shape them, and the skills to navigate the world. (See my previous video on the importance of also centering non-technical skills and classes). I got the opportunity to give a talk to 1000 educators at sxsw with was accredited as a course. Thank you for having me @SXSW
It’s time to prioritize teaching creativity vs being workers

Teach kids to be healthy. Food, nutrition, exercise, less screens. As a therapist, adhd, depression, anxiety is like a social norm these days

Public education is supposed to be about giving children the skills to learn on their own, it's not job training.

This kind speech moves kids into a lazy space. She wants them in some kumbayah area where nothing gets produced. So we don’t need trade workers? Specific scientists? Smh

I agree the mentality that we have about work is stuck in the Industrial Age... Boomers and Gen X are trying not to adapt and change

My one goal for my kids education is for them to hold on to their passion for learning and curiosity. But it’s hard, the whole system is set up against this.

We are animals and are not taught how to survive. We can’t do the basics, find food, make a shelter, make clothes to keep us warm. We are unable to support ourselves as individual creatures and that is a huge problem.

I agree with you. but the change can't be overnight. it has to start with the foundation of the education system. skills matter more than memorization imo

I agree but they have to eat, clothe and have a roof over their head in the meantime. They only get that by having and keeping a job
