I think Richard took them up north secretly for their protection and when he died in 1485, they fled abroad. Killing children doesn’t fit his character.

I believe that Richard III, after declaring them illegitimate, had no interest in killing them. I like to think that he put them in safety in Flanders.

Honestly, we may never know the full concrete story of The Princes of the Tower as a small-ish fraction of the paperwork from their lifetime survives, we don't know if it was destroyed intentionally.
