#GOJOSATORU Prepare yourselves. Firstly, this is my own personal analysis of his character, please don’t attack me :D Gojo is a very complex character, that once you accept that complexity, you can accept his flaws and his goodness, and that they both exist. On one hand, Gojo does try his best to protect the youth. Due to his own upbringing and his treatment as a sorcerer, he tries to prevent the students from being treated the same as him. His mindset is that if they get as strong as him they’ll be able to handle the pressure of being a Jujutsu sorcerer and won’t turn out like Geto. He also believes that teaching them to become stronger will make him feel less lonely. As Gege pointed out, Gojo’s only weakness is his personality/mindset. And he’d be correct. Because the truth is that Gojo died alone due to his own self-isolation. Gojo had the ideology that in order for him to be understood, a person would have to reach his level of strength. He never takes into consideration that he lower himself to their level of strength or open up on a personal level in order for them to understand him. He believes that everyone else has to catch up to him and the only person he has to catch up to is Geto. I say this because this all ties back to Geto in some way. Gojo believes to some extent that the only reason Geto ever understood him because they were on the same level of strength once upon a time. Geto betrays Gojo. Who was his moral compass and the one who brought about the “protect the weak” ideology. Obviously there’s the star plasma vessel mission that further installs this ideology of the weak, but Geto begins it. Geto breaks under the pressure of jujutsu and so that’s why Gojo seeks out Megumi. Megumi is his first student: his first step towards his dream and future. He wants Megumi to grow stronger so that he will be able to deal with the burdens of jujutsu. However, he ignores Megumi’s situation all together to achieve this. He believes he is helping Megumi by giving him the option to not live with the Zen’in… when he actually isn’t. In fact, he’s just furthering the exploitation of youth like the higher-ups do. However, due to his thinking of “I’m preparing him for that exploitation” he doesn’t see it as such. In fact it isn’t until, I believe, Yuta and Yuuji come along that he starts to realise this. Of course Yuta is the closest to him in power, and so he opens a little up to him because he’s possibly the closest to his strength currently. Due to Yuuji being possessed by Sukuna, Gojo sees his potential to be as strong as him one day and so opens up just before the Sukuna fight. He tells Yuuji he wants him to continue his dream if he doesn’t succeed but hopes that he does make it alive. This the first time he has been vulnerable in front of Yuji and one of the few times he’s been vulnerable in front of students. In some way I think this is because he has started to realise his own loneliness, due to his plan with Yuta, and so expresses that loneliness by being vulnerable. But it’s too late. Of course all these flaws are an accumulation of trauma and his upbringing. He was isolated growing up and the first person to show him mutual love was Geto who ended up leaving him behind. But the only reason he believed Geto’s love was the most important was because of their closeness in strength. Otherwise he would have held Shoko’s love just as closely (not to say he might not have, but come on do I even need to say anything?). He had so many opportunities to creates connections. One of the biggest ones being Megumi, who he taught for almost a DECADE and had gone through similar trauma and expectations. (And if I said that Megumi was the biggest victim to Gojo’s generational trauma?) but ultimately he was too scared and ridden by trauma to ever create meaningful connections. Obviously, he still cared for people, but there’s a difference between caring about someone, and having a requited bond with them. #getosuguru #satosugu #jjk #fushiguromegumi
