“They call them rescues… but is it really rescue if the elephants are still working for us? 🐘 In Thailand and across Asia, elephants are cared for by mahouts , men who depend on them for income. The problem is the financial pressure: if a family’s livelihood relies on one elephant, the animal often ends up overworked to keep money coming in. That’s why many so-called ‘sanctuaries’ still chain elephants, force constant tourist selfies, or use harsh training hidden under the word rescue. Profit first, welfare second. If you really care, avoid rides and staged photos. Support true sanctuaries where elephants have space, freedom, and dignity. Your choices matter.”
