@thenatureeducator: Would you wave back?! 👋🏼 Stellar sea lions lift their flippers out of the water to help control their body temperatures. Their bodies are covered in blubber, except for their flippers which have blood vessels close to the surface allowing for heat transfer. When they lift their flippers in the air, they can either warm up in the sun or cool down by releasing heat! I experienced this encounter while out with Ahous Adventurws in Tofino, BC! #marinebiology #nature #ocean
