We picked up a client a couple years ago because the whole “let my business pay my expenses” thing her prior accountant was helping her do got her audited. She owed the IRS a couple million and California got their pound of flesh too. You can’t run personal expenses through the business and expect it to hold up under audit. Don’t leave legitimate deductions on the table, but telling people to have their business pay their expenses without clarification is a great way to get a bunch of uninformed people into trouble.
