@konstantinchaykin: The swift gallop of a strong and beautiful horse is mesmerizing: at certain moments, it seems as if the horse lifts off the ground and flies. In the 19th century, British photographer Eadweard Muybridge documented this fact: his series of photographs, Sallie Gardner at a Gallop, revealed that a galloping horse, at a certain point, does not touch the ground with any of its hooves. This series, which became a precursor to cinema, inspired Konstantin Chaykin to create Cinema—the first timepiece in his work designed to evoke an immediate emotional response. It features a miniature mechanical film projector, invented by Chaykin himself, that recreates the motion of Sallie Gardner at a Gallop. The horse’s movement can be observed through a lens covering the aperture beneath the watch dial. The Cinema case, crafted from white gold with black relief detailing, reflects the elegance of the black-and-white film era. Ribbed side protrusions allowed for an increased diameter of the disc and a larger image size.
